Dr. Christopher J. Kane is a specialist in prostate cancer and an expert in robotic and other minimally invasive procedures for urologic surgery. He is internationally recognized for his patient care and research in prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and minimally invasive surgical treatment of urologic diseases and disorders.
Dr. Kane joined UCSD as Professor of Surgery/Urology and Chief of Urology in September, 2007. He directs the UCSD Urology Residency Training Program.
Dr. Kane came to UCSD Urology from the University of California, San Francisco, where he was Professor in Residence and Vice Chair of the Urology Department, Assistant Residency Program Director, and Chief of Urology at the VA Medical Center in San Francisco.
Before his tenure at UCSF, Dr. Kane was Assistant Professor of Surgery (Urology) and Director of the Urology Residency Training Program at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego.
Dr. Kane received his M.D. degree from the Uniformed Services of the Health Sciences, served his surgical internship and residency at the Oakland Naval Medical Center and the UC Davis East Bay Combined Program, and completed his residency in urology at UCSF and the Oakland Naval Medical Center.
His American Board of Urology certification was most recently renewed in 2005.
An investigator on numerous active research grants, Dr. Kane has published over 110 peer-reviewed scientific articles and over 100 scientific abstracts and invited commentaries. He contributes extensively to the medical and general communities as a presenter and educator.
As a military officer and surgeon, Dr. Kane has served in the medical corps in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. His numerous military honors include the Navy Commendation Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
